Barbara Murphy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Saul Colonial Home on Dec. 12, 2025.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Barbara lived in Staten Island and Florida before settling in Freehold, NJ, where she raised her family and built a life rooted in love, faith, and community. Most recently, she resided in Hamilton.
Barbara dedicated her life to education, sharing her passion for literature, learning, and creativity with generations of students. Throughout her career, she taught at St. Joseph by the Sea High School in Staten Island, served as a substitute teacher in the Freehold School District, contributed to St. Rose of Lima-where she also led the PTA Christmas Bazaar-and ultimately spent 17 cherished years as an English teacher at St. Rose High School in Belmar. She touched countless lives with her warmth, patience, and unwavering belief in her students.
Outside the classroom, Barbara found joy in the simple, beautiful things. The beach was her happy place, and she and her husband created decades of treasured memories with their children and grandchildren at their family home on Long Beach Island. Her creativity was ever-present-whether through painting, writing, crafting, or bringing imaginative touches to everyday life. Her whimsy, charm, and nurturing spirit left an imprint on everyone she loved.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Winnie Paul. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Tim Murphy; her daughters, Jennifer Mantle and her husband, Sam, and Lauren Murphy and her husband, Rob; her adored grandchildren, Christopher, Madison, Trey, and Mackenzie; her brother, Frank Paul and his wife, Peggy; her sisters, Kathleen McWade and her husband, Scott, and Karen Paul; as well as many loving extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close.
Barbara's legacy is one of love, gentleness, creativity, and unwavering devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, New Jersey.
Cremation will be private.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.
