Barbara Jeanne Nekola, Age 87, of New Richmond, WI, passed away March 29, 2024. Preceded in death by parents Ida and Peter Thomas Nekola, sister Virginia Aiton, and brother Peter James Nekola. Barb was a fun, adventurous, free spirit who loved life. A registered nurse, she served in the US Air Force on bases in the US and Germany, later working in Ashland, Wisconsin and St. Paul, Minnesota, and serving as President of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 2707. Interment will be at a future date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

On behalf of the Society of Air Force Nurses, please know we are mourning with you the death of our sister nurse, Barbara Nekola. It takes a patriot, willing to give of themselves to other human beings in their time of need, to step forth and join the ranks of our U. S. Air Force Nurse Corps. Your beloved one will be mourned and missed by many who served alongside her. We will include her name in our Memorial Program of the Society of Air Force Nurses in commemoration of her life and service to our nation.

Barbara, It was my honor and privilege to get to know you as a neighbor and a friend over the past 4 to 5 years. You made me laugh every time I visited with you. Your historical Air Force stories and your sense of humor were amazing! And you stayed up to date with technology even though it frustrated you to text me. You will be missed by so many friends and family here. Rest easy, Barbara.
