Stephen “Steve” Francis Nekola passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 27 2025 at the age of 80 years. He was born on September 22,1944 in La Crosse, WI to John and Margaret (nee: Arenz) Nekola. Steve earned a bachlor’s degree in business from St Mary’s University in Winona, MN and his masters degree from UW-Whitewater from the School of Business Management. He was employed at Nicolet High School as Assistant Business Manager and then spent 24 years at Waukesha Water Utility. Following retirement Steve took pleasure in working part-time at Home Depot in Waukesha as a sales associate in the electrical department. Steve was a faithful and committed member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church community, where he and Pat are very active. He also cherished his time as a driver for Meals on Wheels. He loved delivering meals and a smile to those in need. On December 18,1971 he married Patricia Evans, they enjoyed many years of outdoor and business adventures together. Steve always told Pat they may not be perfect however, they are perfect for each other.
He will be sadly missed by his loving and committed wife, Patricia “Pat” Nekola; his brother Mark (Julie) Nekola, a nephew Ben Nekola, niece Abbey (Andy) and great nephew Ayden and great niece Addelyn.
A visitation and memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May, 10, 2025 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2400 W. State HWY 59 Waukesha with visitation starting at 10:00 AM until the memorial Mass at 1:00 PM. Inurnment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery.
