Barbara Otwell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home and Cemetery on Feb. 18, 2026.
Funeral service for Barbara Anne "Aimee" Otwell, age 88, of Glencoe will be held 1pm Friday, February 20, 2026 at Glencoe Hokes Bluff Funeral Home with Reverend Joseph Stafford Rowser Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12pm until time of service.

Ms. Otwell passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Cherokee County Health and Rehab.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Carol Otwell; parents, Buster Walden and Lessie Pendergrass Walden;

sisters, Betty Allen and Carolyn Johnson.

Barbara is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lori McClellan; step-daughter, Terri Byer (Dan); and a host of nieces and nephews.

Aimee held a special place in her heart for her two granddaughters, McKenna Haynes (Braxton) and McKenzie McClellan, whose lives were a source of deep pride and joy.

Barbara's family finds comfort in the lasting legacy of love, kindness, and strength that she leaves with each of them.

Aimee was a member of Red Cross. She graduated from Glencoe High School in 1955 and later graduated from Gadsden State Community College in 1976 where she earned her nursing degree. She started her career at Baptist Memorial Hospital and later retired from Gadasden Regional Medical Center after 44 years of service. An avid reader who loved the outdoors, she found peace in nature and comfort in quiet moments with a good book. Her faith was central to her life; she treasured reading her Bible and could often be found sitting on the front porch, singing traditional gospel songs-a simple joy that reflects her deep spirit and love of home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Special thanks to Cherokee County Health and Rehab memory care unit and Gentiva Hospice.
