Barbara Ann Periat , 88, of McArthur, went on to heaven on Monday February 2, 2026. Barbara was born on October 16, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of the late Anthony and Ulah (Francis) Witczak.
Barbara was a student of Art from a very young age taking classes at the Toledo Museum of art prior to being a 1956 graduate of Toledo Central Catholic High School, and then a graduate of Mary Manse college with a degree in Art History. Barbara was a lifelong Catholic being heavily involved in her parish in Zaleski, Ohio, St Sylvester church in the Devine Mercy parish. She was also a proud 2nd generation Polish-American and was known by Babcia to her two grandchildren. She was always a social butterfly, belonging to many groups in the 60s including TCCY, and she sang with the Jerry Francis singers. During that time, she met the love of her life Dennis Periat. The two dated and married on September 11, 1971. Barbara worked for many years for the Toledo Lucas County Public Library as an artist in the marketing department from which she retired in 2002. In 1995 her and Dennis fell in love with South Eastern Ohio and purchased twenty acres in which they planned to retire. In 2004, the dream finally came true, and they moved full time to Vinton County, where they both spent the remainder of their lives.
Barbara is survived by her children, Joseph (Heather) Periat and Tony Periat with whom she lived with. Very special grandchildren Logan Periat of Perrysburg, Ohio and Morgan Periat of Toledo, Ohio, and special nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She never met a stranger and every friend became family. She is also survived by her goldendoodle, baby girl Inki whom she loved very dearly.
She was forever an artist of many mediums, but the greatest art she ever created was the rich life with the family and friends that will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years Dennis Joseph Periat; mother, Ulah Francis; father, Anthony Witczak; sister Mary Jane Lubinski, Special Aunt and Uncle Frank and Eleanor Kruse and many other close-nit Aunts and Uncles.
