Barbara A. (Fitzpatrick) Powers, 85, passed away unexpectedly on February 21, 2025, in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Barbara was born in Somerville, MA and was a lifelong resident. Barbara was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lillian (Bradley) Fitzpatrick. She was the devoted wife of 42 years to the late Donald J. "DJ" Powers and a beloved mother to Nancy and Jay Suter of Brockton; Paula and William Snow of New Hampshire; Julie and Frank Richardson of Medford; Linda Powers of Germany; and Jim and Sandy Powers of Thousand Oaks, California. Barbara was a cherished Nana to Matthew Powers, Andrew & Sara Iamelli, John Suter Jr., and the late Alicia Snow. Her love extended to her great-grandchildren Santino, Niyla, and Jahlia Digaetano; Matthew and Brynn Powers; and Maevis Iamelli. Barbara is also survived by her sister Irene Coddington; sisters-in-law Lorraine Powers and Joan Fitzpatrick Sherman; as well as many nieces and nephews. Her beloved beagle, Cookie, will miss her dearly.
Barbara was predeceased by her sister Joan MacMillan and her brothers William, Robert, and Leonard Fitzpatrick. A talented cook and baker, Barbara found immense joy in preparing meals for family gatherings. Hosting holiday dinners was a treasured tradition, but it was the weekly Sunday dinners that truly brought her happiness. Her "secret" recipes will be passed down for generations to come.
Barbara graduated from Notre Dame High School in North Cambridge (The French School) and forged friendships that lasted her lifetime. Barbara pursued catechism education at Aquinas Junior College, where she earned a certificate in the Master Teachers program for CCD classes. She dedicated time to managing the Confirmation program at St. John's Church in North Cambridge, sharing her faith with younger generations. Professionally, Barbara worked for many years at Atlantic Tracy/Motion Industries in Somerville and Woburn.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the Keefe Funeral Home, 2175 Mass Ave., NORTH CAMBRIDGE on Wednesday Feb. 26th from 4-7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday in Saint John's Church at 11 am. Burial will follow in Cambridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Barbara's memory are encouraged to take a loved one to dinner-a fitting tribute to someone who found such joy in bringing people together around the table.
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
