Barbara A. Ransbottom, age 96, formerly of Independence, KS, passed away on August 4, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Barbara was born in Sycamore Valley, north of Independence on January 22, 1929, to Fred and Hazel (Hurst) Ringle. She attended elementary school in Sycamore and high school and junior college in Independence. She was a member of the Independence High School Class of 1946. On June 15, 1947, she married Gerald Ransbottom, also of Independence. They were the parents of one daughter Vicky and two sons, James (Jim) of Tulsa, OK and Kent (deceased), two grandchildren, Chris of Midlothian, Texas and Erica of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and three great-granddaughters Nora, Blakely, and Amilia.
Barbara began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Independence, KS while still in high school. Following Gerald’s career, they moved to Pittsburg, KS, Tulsa, OK, Dallas, TX, Anchorage, AK, and Brisbane, Australia. Barbara served as Cub Scout Den Mother and was a ready and willing supporter of all family activities. Her hobbies included quilting, knitting, bridge, golf, and most importantly her family and church.
Barbara and Gerald were active members of the Lutheran Church until their move to Grove, OK where they became members of the First United Methodist Church and actively participated in many areas of service in both denominations.
After moving to Grove, Barbara served as a volunteer for Grove Integris Hospital and amassed almost 10,000 hours of service. She was the first to initiate the hospital’s patient advocate program and in 2009, received the Compassion in Action Volunteer Award.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Vicky of Billings, OK, son Jim and wife Laura of Tulsa, OK, granddaughter Erica and husband Doug of Tulsa, grandson Chris and wife Lauren of Midlothian, TX, great-granddaughters Nora, Blakely, and Amilia, and sister Marcialee Mitchell and husband Jack of Liberty, KS. She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Gerald, brothers Daniel and Fred Ringle, sisters Betty (Ringle) Hoffman, Colleen (Ringle) McKaig and Kaye (Ringle) Helterbrand.
No public services are scheduled. Arrangements have been entrusted to Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, Oklahoma.
