Edwin Ransbottom Obituary
Mr. Ransbottom passed away January 26, 2026, at UAB Hospital.
Mr. Ransbottom was a native of Indiana. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1969 and volunteered to serve as a gunship crew chief in combat in Vietnam. Mr. Ransbottom spent a long career in civil service and retired from the Anniston Army Depot. He obtained his A&P license and was certified in rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft. He loved college football (Go Bucks! Beat that team up north!), motorcycle racing, woodworking, and was a master tinkerer. Mr. Ransbottom moved to Anniston in 1998 from Ohio and was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church. His grandchildren could do no wrong. Known as "Pap" to his grandkids, he would drop everything to do anything for them. He loved to watch his Lily "Lilypad" dance; watch Aiden wrestle and listen to him play trombone; talk about cars, college, girls, and food with Matthew; and mow the grass, ride tractors, and play with trains with Kaleb. He will be best remembered by his family for the time he spent with them; giving the best hugs ever.
His favorite times were with his family at their houses on the porch, grilling, and having a cold beer. He dearly cherished his daily morning bible study with his precious Kathy. He loved America, his brothers in arms, and was proud to have served his nation.
Mr. Ransbottom is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Leslie Ransbottom and Evelyn Wingfield Ransbottom.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Kathy Foust Ransbottom; his sons, Jason Ransbottom and his wife, Jenna, and Brandon Ransbottom and his wife, Deborah; and grandchildren, Kaleb Ransbottom, Matthew LaTour, Aiden Ransbottom, and Lily Ransbottom.
Pallbearers will be Jason Ransbottom, Brandon Ransbottom, Aiden Ransbottom, Matthew LaTour, Greg Hassler, and Steve Gilpin.
