Barbara Ann Rommel, 65, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on June 22, 1960, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Raymond Hillis and Gladys (Page) Hillis. In 1983 Barbara married Archie Dwayne Rommel.
Barbara lived in Southeast Missouri all of her life. She enjoyed fishing, being outside. Sewing, spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her son, James Hillis of Poplar Bluff; her daughter, Felicia Rommel of Poplar Bluff; two step-sons, Anthony (Angela) Rommel, and Michael (Tammy) Rommel; one brother, Thomas Eugene (Rhonda) Hillis of Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren, Kimberly Hillis, Mea Brannon, Lauren Phelps, and Landon Phelps; one great granddaughter, Willow Grace Brannon; four step-grandchildren, Justin Rommel, Ashton Rommel, James Rommel, and Kayden Rommel. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Gladys Hillis; her husband, Archie Dwayne Rommel; four brothers, Jr. Hillis, Charlie Hillis, Frank Hillis, and William Hillis; and four sisters, Sharon Dunn, Louise McNamee, Betty Robertson, and Edith Robertson. A host of family and friends also survive.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on February 12, 2026, at Little Brushy Cemetery at 8348 Missouri T, Wappapello, MO 63966. Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home is assisting with all funeral arrangements.
