Barbara Rye Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sebrell Funeral Home on Jan. 21, 2026.
Barbara Ellen Rye (née Hickey), age 77, passed away unexpectedly on January 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and deep devotion to her family.

Barbara was born on November 23, 1948, in Herrin, Illinois, to Floyd Clifford Hickey and Juanita Hickey (née Nelson), both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Clifford (Mike) Hickey; her grandson, Anthony Hickey; and her son-in-law, Brett Brave.

Barbara dedicated many years of her life to her career at Crown Cork & Seal, from which she retired after years of faithful and dedicated service. Even in retirement, she continued doing what she loved, making friends while working part time at Moto Mart in Flora, Mississippi. She found joy in making biscuits and coffee for her customers and often stayed a little longer just to visit, laugh, and enjoy their company. Known fondly by many as "the Biscuit Lady," Barbara treasured those daily connections and the friendships she formed there.

Barbara was united in marriage to Kenneth Rye on September 12, 1966, and again on December 15, 1989, sharing a lifelong bond rooted in love, devotion, and family. Together they created a life filled with shared memories, strength, and unwavering support.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth Rye, and their children: Kendra Snapp (Jeff) of Momence, Illinois; Scott Rye (Melissa) of Flora, Mississippi; Chrystal Brave of Flora, Mississippi; and Shanian Rye of Kankakee, Illinois.

Barbara was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were the light of her life. She loved them fiercely and unconditionally, always taking pride in their lives, milestones, and the people they were becoming. Her role as "Grandma" and "Great-Grandma" was one she held close to her heart, and her love will forever live on through the generations she helped shape.

Barbara was the heart of her family, always checking in, always listening, always loving. She was a constant source of comfort, wisdom, and encouragement, not only to her family but to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her warmth, kindness, and genuine care created bonds that extended far beyond blood.

Barbara's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and grace.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Community Building, located at 443 Livingston Vernon Road, Flora, Mississippi 39071.
