Dr. Allan Percy Durfey, Jr. passed away Monday, February 2, 2026. A native of
Canton, Mississippi, Percy was born on August 12, 1937, to the late Allan Percy and Alice (Clower) Durfey. He was a graduate of Canton High School and the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1962 and completed his surgical residency at Confederate Memorial Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. After completing his residency, Percy joined the United States Navy and was stationed in Portsmouth, Virginia, where he was on the surgical staff at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and served as ship's surgeon on the USS Independence stationed in the Mediterranean Sea.
After completing his Navy service as a Lieutenant Commander, he returned to Canton to join his father, along with his cousin, John Durfey, in practice at The Durfey Clinic. Percy was a member of the American Medical Association, Mississippi State Medical Association and Southern Medical Association. In Canton, he was a member of the Canton Rotary Club, Coffee Club, and a board member and past Vice President of the Canton-Madison County Historical Society.
Percy was a lifelong Episcopalian and active member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served multiple terms on the vestry, as Junior Warden and Senior Warden, and as a licensed Lay Eucharistic Minister. An avid learner, he was an Education for Ministry graduate of the School of Theology at the University of the South. He served the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi as a member of the Standing Committee, member and president of the Executive Committee, camp physician for Camp Bratton-Green in Way, Mississippi, medical review physician for the Diocese, member of the Order of St. Luke, and by traveling and providing medical services to the people of San Pedro Sula, Honduras as part of the Honduran Medical Mission.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marian, and his children, Melissa Keck (Herb) and Allan Durfey (Suzanne) of Madison and Rosemary Durfey (Karl Bombich) of Jackson; grandchildren Bailey Durfey (Preston Tiffany), Bryce Durfey, Ryan Keck, Kyle Little (Anna Love) of Madison and Will Tanner of Oxford; three great grandchildren; brothers-in-law Tom Ham (Jan) and Clifford Ham; nieces and nephews Phil Buffington (Sarah), Dusty Ford, Lauren Ayers (Scott), Leslie Brost (Evan), Ailie Ham (Chris) and Jamie Ham; and cousin Julie Kjaerdstad (Thorbjorn). In addition to his parents, Percy was preceded in death by his sister Gwin Buffington, brother-in-law Phillip Buffington, niece Sharon Ford and nephew Miles Ham.
Visitation will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 161 East Peace Street,
Canton, MS on Friday, February 6, 2026, between 5:00 – 7:00 pm and Saturday, February 7, 10:00 - 11:00 am. The service will follow at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Grace Episcopal Church.
