Shawn Michael Rye

Shawn Michael Rye, 50, formerly of Pickford, Michigan, passed away on January 3, 2026, in Plymouth, Michigan. Born on December 26, 1975, Shawn grew up in Pickford and graduated from high school in 1994. During his youth, he found joy and camaraderie playing hockey in Sault Ste. Marie. He also had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing the drums, especially drawn to the energy of rock music. Shawn went on to build a career in the construction trades and carpentry. He is survived by his wife, Angela (Walker) Rye; his children Dustin Rye (Brittany) of Sault Ste. Marie, Kailea Rye, Zachary Rye, and Arriana Rye, along with their mother Jaquelyn (Briggs) Rye of Corunna, Michigan. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ava Rye and Kayson Rye; stepchildren Kaitlyn Urquhart, Ryan Urquhart, and Nathaniel Urquhart of Plymouth; and his grandmother Patricia Frederiksen Bentley of Holland. Shawn was preceded in death by his parents, Michael Rye and Cynthia (Frederiksen) Rye; grandparents Roy and Louise Rye; grandfather John "Jack" Frederiksen; and uncles Daniel Rye and David Frederiksen. He leaves behind a loving extended family including aunts and uncles Kenny Rye (Jackie), Jenny Rye Leach (Troy) of Pickford, Michigan, as well as Kate Frederiksen and Melissa Frederiksen of Holland, Michigan.
