Barbara Saggau Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kaniewski Funeral Home - South Bend on Aug. 24, 2023.
Barbara Berry Saggau, 94, of Notre Dame, IN, most recently in Neptune Beach, FL, passed away on July 27th, 2023 at 10:42 am. She was surrounded by loved ones those last days of her life. Barbara was born on Feb 14, 1929 to Audrey and Richard Berry in Chicago, IL. She had lived most of the last 15 years of her life in South Bend, IN. Barbara attended St Mary's College in 1947 where she met her future husband, Thomas Henry Saggau, who attended Notre Dame University. They wed in 1950 and had over 50 glorious years together. Preceding Barbara in death are her parents, her husband, two sisters, one brother and her oldest son, Tom Saggau. Barbara was the mother of 7 children, 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Jeff) Blowers, Therese (Kunga Drotos) Saggau; four sons John Saggau, Tim (Deb) Saggau, Michael (Sarah Blanck) Saggau and Peter Saggau; grandchildren Yasmin Saggau, Jennifer Steel, Katie Kromberg, Christopher Saggau, Mary Rachel Lee, Laura Sanders, Elizabeth Obi, Anne Rosario, Sophina Saggau, Alex and Sawyer Blanck, Rachel Blowers- Deffenbaugh, Ben and Jacob Blowers, Mary Grace McGauley, Ella Feldman, Hannah, Rachel and Thomas Saggau, Audrey Drotos and Mei Mei Saggau Drotos and daughter-in-law Meredith Steel. Barbara was a master seamstress, bridge player, gardener, reader, poet and giver of loving, caring advice and support. She was a founding member of Andre Place at Holy Cross Village and spent 15 joyful years there with her long- time friends. She loved family gatherings and socializing with her friends. We will miss her smile, her positive, practical and independent nature and will hold close the memory of her "cutting the rug" with her husband, Tom, and relaxing at end of day with a highball. Visitation and Funeral Mass: Tuesday, Sept 5, 2023 at St Joseph Chapel on the grounds of Holy Cross College at Notre Dame. Visitation 1:30-2:30, Mass 2:30-3:30 followed by Committal at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Reception to follow at Geehen Hall, Andre Place Holy Cross Village.
