Barbara Sampson Obituary

Barbara Elaine Sampson

Newport, NC - Barbara Elaine Sampson, 71, of Newport, NC passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City, NC.

Barbara was born on May 22, 1953, in Northampton, Ma. to the late William and Ida Allen. Raised in Massachusetts, Barbara carried the charm and strength of her New England roots throughout her life.

She eventually made her home in Newport, North Carolina, where she became a beloved member of the community. For over 15 years, Barbara was a friendly and familiar face at Cox's Family Restaurant, where she worked as a hostess. She retired about seven years ago, but she is fondly remembered by her many regulars and coworkers alike.

In her free time, she loved reading novels, caring for animals, and spending time on her computer. Barbara enjoyed the quiet moments just as much as she valued connection with her close friends. She will be deeply missed by the lives she touched.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her dear friend and caregiver, Rachel Stuart of Newport; and her brother William "Billy" Allen Jr. and his wife Linn Allen of Amherst, Ma. as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Sampson and her brother Charles H. Allen.

She will be buried at the VA Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC next her husband John.

Donations in her name can be made to the American Diabetes Foundation (http://www.diabetes.org) or the Dakin Animal Shelter (http://www.dakinhumane.org)
