Barbara Schafran Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wasik Funeral Home - Shelby Township on Dec. 11, 2025.
Barbara M. Schafran passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, at her residence in Shelby Township.

Barbara was born on February 27, 1936, to Wilfred and Frances Weinert in Detroit, Michigan. She was the beloved wife of 66 wonderful years of Mel. Loving mother of Michael (Sharon) Schafran, Tracy (Dave) Hood, and Michelle (Jeff) Pomaville. Very proud grandmother of Ashley (Antonio) Guglielmetti, Sarah Schafran, Austin (Meghan) Hood, Derek (Courtney) Pomaville, Connor (fiancé Madison) Schafran, Kelsey (Clint) Parker, Natalie (Jared) Muehlschlegel, and Kate Schafran, and great grandmother to Paulo and Roman Guglielmetti.

Growing up in Detroit, Barb attended high school at Nativity of Our Lord and proceeded to attend University of Michigan. Barb and Mel started their family in Roseville before moving to their current home in Shelby Township. Within that time, she spent over 20 years sharing her love of jewelry with those at Maloof in St. Clair Shores. When she wasn't in Southeast Michigan, you were guaranteed to find her relaxing with friends in Palm Springs, CA, Forestville, MI or Higgins Lake, MI. She was a passionate quilter & loved to sew, with countless hours creating works of art for family and friends, with plenty of creative Halloween costumes for the grandkids. Barb was never shy about hosting an event and had a love for cooking, entertaining and company. As an avid golfer always in search of a birdie, she was the president of her Partridge Pears Golf League. Barb showed up to support all of her grandkids at every single school, sports, extracurricular activity which could reach into the hundreds. She was a true matriarch of the family, and her love, wisdom and kindness will be deeply missed. Her quick wit, unvarnished truth and directness always brought a laugh.

A celebration of life will be on Saturday, December 20, 2025, beginning at 11:30am with a Memorial Mass at Noon at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 18201 23 Mile Road (corner of Romeo Plank), Macomb Township.
