Barbara Kay Schannep, 82, passed away on December 3, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born on September 29, 1943, in Wabash, Indiana, to Paul and Maudie (Grindle) Stoops, Barbara spent her life in North Manchester.
After completing her education at Manchester High School in 1961, where she engaged with her passion for music as a member of the band and served as a Squiret, Barbara embarked on a professional journey that found her working at Peabody Credit Union, Singer Controls Credit Union, and ultimately retiring from the Marion Independent Federal Credit Union in Huntington.
On September 14, 1963, Barbara married, Wikky Gene Schannep. They shared a beautiful life together until his passing on September 22, 2008. A homebody at heart, she cherished family time, particularly following Wikky's departure. She was quiet but caring and tough enough to raise her three sons.
Barbara was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 286 and Moose Lodge 1518, both in North Manchester. In her younger days, she was proud to be a member of Tri Kappa, reflecting her commitment to civic engagement and the well-being of those around her.
The loving memory of Barbara Kay Schannep will be forever cherished by her sons, Rikky (Jessica) Schannep, Warsaw, Danny (Abby) Schannep and Denny (Heather) Schannep, both of North Manchester; sister, Saundra Classick, Westfield; and seven grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wikky Schannep; and sons, Jim and Jay Schannep.
Family and friends may call Friday, December 12, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be held at South Whitley Cemetery in South Whitley, Indiana.
