Barbara Scheetz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Silha Funeral Homes - Glendive on Jan. 8, 2026.
Barbara "Barb" Scheetz, age 81, of Glendive Montana, entered eternal rest on Thursday January 8th, 2026, at her home in Glendive, surrounded by the love of her family and the faith that guided her life. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., with the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. Right of Committal will follow in the Dawson County Cemetery. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Barb was born on September 16th, 1944, to Elias and Katherine (Winters) Volk in Flasher, North Dakota. She was raised and educated in Flasher, graduating from Flasher High School with the Class of 1962. On September 28th, 1963, she was united in marriage to the love of her life Ernest "Ernie" Scheetz. Together they shared a lifetime of devotion, raising three children and building a home filled with faith, love and laughter. After living in Baker, Montana, the family moved to Glendive in 1977, where Barb and Ernie would live in the home they built.

Barb worked a few jobs over the years, but her greatest vocation was being a mother and grandmother. She lived selflessly, always placing her family's needs before her own, offering quiet strength, steady encouragement, and unconditional love.

A woman of faith, Barb found joy in simple blessings. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, and many crafts, including lovingly making rosaries for the military service members - small meaningful acts of prayer and service. Barbara also belonged to the Catholic Daughters. She treasured time spent visiting with family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and heartfelt conversation. Long drives with Ernie were some of her favorite moments, and her warm presence made every gathering feel like home.

Barb's faith was evident in how she lived - through her kindness, her generosity, and her unwavering love for her family. Whether attending children's and grandchildren's activities, hosting holidays, or simply being there when she was needed, Barb was the steady heart of her family. She continually prayed for everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Ernie; two sisters; and eight brothers, whom she now rejoins in God's eternal embrace.

Barb is survived by her three children: Shandon and Jennifer Scheetz of Glendive, Ernie and Cindy Scheetz of Baker, and Glenda and Kevin Mitchell of Glendive; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six sisters; one brother; a dear friend, Dave Kingstad; and numerous nieces and nephews.

While her family mourns her passing, they take comfort in knowing Barb is at peace, welcomed home by the Lord she trusted throughout her life. Her legacy of faith, love and devotion will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
