Barbara Ann Schmidt

SCHMIDT, Barbara Ann (nee Wood). March 16, 2026. Age 84. Beloved wife of Melvin Schmidt. Proud and adored mother of Victoria (Peter) Asaro and Julia (Michael) Russ. Cherished grandmother of Lindsay (Nathan) Scheffers, Stephanie (Andrew) Campbell, Natalie (Anthony) Gomez, and Ashley Russ. Treasured great grandmother of Dylan Scheffers, Grace, Lillian and Preston Campbell, and Lola and Ollie Gomez.

Barbara Ann was born on September 11, 1941, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Louis J. Wood and Hilda G. (nee Schwark) Wood. Barbara graduated from Mt. Clemens High School in 1959. She married her high school sweetheart, Melvin Schmidt, on October 14th, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Clemens. Together they shared 64 years of marriage.

Barbara worked clerical jobs ahead of becoming a dedicated homemaker, with her family and two daughters as her highest priority. She understood her role and stayed attentive to all of their needs. Barbara never missed a sporting event or extracurricular activity. She encouraged hard work and education for her children, and she, herself, returned to work to provide the means for her girls to go to college. She was the family's north star and she always made sure you knew where home was. Later in life, once grandchildren came, she retired to become a babysitter, grandma and grandpa camp counselor, and an avid supporter of everything they did. Also, during this time, Barbara enjoyed traveling, especially trips with her family. She had a quiet faith in the Lord and was known to be an example and mentor to others.

In addition to her family, Barbara Ann is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister Donna Mae Landerschier, brother Ross Wood, brother Richard Wood, and infant brother who died at birth.

Visitation will be held on Sunday (March 22nd) from 3-9pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., (Shelby) located at 54880 VanDyke at 25 Mile Road. She will lie instate on Monday (March 23rd) from 10am until the time of the 11am Funeral Service at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 17051 24 Mile Rd, Macomb, MI 48042.
