It is with heavy heart that the family of Barbara Schofield, of College Park, announces her
peacefully passing in the early morning of June 23, 2022.
Barbara is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Carroll Schofield. She is
survived by her 8 children, Mike Schofield (wife, Tina), Karen Schofield, Mary Headley, Mark
Schofield (wife, Valerie), Cynthia Kelly, Jennifer Ricker (husband, Geoff), Billy Schofield, and
Lita Schofield. Astoundingly, she is survived by fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great
grandchildren.
Born in Washington, DC in 1939, Barbara was the eldest of five children born to Frank and
Lorretta Vanderhoof. As the eldest she played a key role in caring for her siblings, Linda
Rucker, Richard Vanderhoof, Robert Vanderhoof and Judy Anderson. In 1956, Carroll and
Barbara were married then moved to College Park in 1960 where they raised their family.
Barbara was a loving mother, worked hard, member of the Red Hat Society and editor for the
Young at Heart newsletter. She enjoyed staying connected to the community, gardening, sewing
and reading books.
The family will hold a private memorial service to celebrate her life at a later date.
