William E. Schofield, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 8, 2026, at his home in Youngstown, Ohio.
Born in New Castle on March 31, 1941, Bill was the son of the late Eli and Julia Ida Caparoula Schofield. He was a former employee at Conrail, where he dedicated thirty-five years of service as an engineer before his retirement.
Bill was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman, Ohio. He was an outdoor lover finding reward in camping, fishing, working in his garden and on his vintage cars. He had a passion for all culinary aspects influencing many around him.
He was an excellent guitar player and a true lover of music.
Bill is survived by his six children: RoxAnn Gallagher (Keith), Morreen Galletta (Gerard), Louise Cover (Richard), Denise Green (Bruce), Angela Cochran (Sean), and Darlene Schofield; three sisters, Julia DeHaven, JoAnn Scavotto, and Sandra Finamore; his longtime companion of twenty-eight years, Nancy Koutsourais, and her children, Danny, Mikey, and Helen; sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Bertha Houk and several Aunts and Uncles.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill Street. A Blessing Service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Father Aaron Kriss. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
