Barbara Smith Snyder, 79, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026. Born on October 6, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Gary and Pearl Moore Smith. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Howell Snyder, who passed away in 2017, her infant son John Snyder, Jr., and siblings Etta Mae Sharpe, Mary Belle Grasty, Jack, Kenneth, and Joe Smith.
Barbara's professional journey included meaningful work at Midway and at Martins Pharmacy. She was known for her warm spirit and her generous heart, extending kindness to everyone she encountered. She was of the Baptist faith, Barbara found great comfort and strength in her faith throughout her life.
Family was at the core of Barbara's happiness. She loved spending time with her daughters, Sherry Little (Joseph) and Tina Franklin (David), and took immense pride in her grandchildren, Andrew Franklin (Callie), Drake Franklin, Morgan Little, Bowdrie Little, and Chantry Little and great-grandchildren, Cabe, Mason, Micah, and Hal.
Barbara was especially remembered for her passion for cooking, where countless memories were baked into the treats she lovingly prepared for those around her. Her green thumb also brought joy, with many admiring the flowers she tended with such care and attention.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Donnie Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Haywood Hospice, 13 Haywood Office Park, Suite 107, Waynesville, NC 28785.
Barbara Smith Snyder’s life will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to inspire those she touched.
