Barbara Stevko Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch Funeral Service - Greenville on Jan. 16, 2026.
Barbara Ann Stevko, known to all as Barb, passed away on January 15, 2026. She was born on August 5, 1948, in DeKalb, Illinois, to Robert Gerlach and Mary Althoff.

Barb's life was rooted in faith, family, and service. A devout member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Commerce, Texas, her faith guided every aspect of her life. God was above all else, and her church community was deeply important to her. Barb faithfully prayed the rosary twice each day and lived her beliefs through kindness, compassion, and unwavering devotion to Jesus.

Family was the heart of Barb's world. She dedicated many years to raising her five children and two grandsons, while also opening her home and heart to others in the neighborhood. She was widely known as Mom and Nana to all-offering guidance, love, and a steady presence to anyone who needed it.

At the age of 50, Barb achieved a lifelong goal by earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M University–Commerce, a testament to her determination and love of learning. She later went on to serve as a social worker for Hospice, where her empathy and gentle spirit brought comfort to countless families during their most difficult moments.

Barb had a creative soul and found joy in arts and crafts, watching game shows, and reading biographies. These quiet pleasures reflected her curiosity, creativity, and appreciation for the stories of others.

She is survived by her children: Andrew Stevko Jr. and wife Franziska Marks; Ann Chianese and husband Andrew; Robert Stevko; Barbara Wingfield and husband Brannen Oliver; and Bryan Stevko. She is also survived by her brothers, Larry Gerlach and his wife Laurie, and Charles Gerlach and his wife Katie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Gerlach and Mary Althoff, her first husband, Edward Raymond Kyle, and her second husband, Andrew Michael Peter Stevko Sr.

The service will be held on January 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Commerce, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Family First Home Health in Greenville, Texas.
