Memorial service for Barbara Sundermeyer will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Dena Knox officiating. Barbara Ann Sundermeyer, age 72, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, after a lengthy battle with colon cancer. Barbara was born to John and Lola Rolfing in Caledonia, Minn., on October 1, 1952. She attended Caledonia public schools where she was a member of the band. She also worked as a lifeguard at the community swimming pool in the summer. Her parents instilled a fierce loyalty to family and community. After graduating from high school in 1971, Barbara attended Winona State University where she earned a degree in elementary education. After teaching for a year at the Catholic school in Caledonia, Barbara set her sights west and accepted a teaching position in Gillette. She also worked part-time at the pool in the recreation center.

In 1986, Barbara married Steve Sundermeyer. In 1987, the couple decided to move closer to family and she accepted a position with the Winona Public Schools. Barbara gave birth to two sons, earned a Master's degree, and retired from the Winona School District in 2008. After sending their sons off to college, the couple moved back to Gillette where she finished her career with the Campbell County School District. Barbara loved teaching, it was her heart and soul.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 38 years, Steve; sons, Sam and his wife, Ann, Max and his wife, Amy; four grandsons; and her sister, Roxie Kreisel and her husband, Gary.
