Barbara Sweeney

Barbara Elaine Sweeney Affectionately known as "Nana" or "Auntie P " Peacefully transitioned from this life on Thursday, December 4th, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center. She was 73 years old.
Born and raised in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica, Barbara attended Homestead Schools before bravely migrating to the United States at age 30 in pursuit of new opportunities and a better life for her family.
In 1970, Barbara met the love of her life, Bryon Sweeney, and they were united in marriage in 1978. Their lifelong partnership was founded on love, faith, and mutual respect.
Barbara's life was marked by hard work and devotion. She held various roles including housekeeper at the Marriott Hotel, employee at the Springfield Newspaper, Certified Nursing Assistant at the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), and later as a bus monitor for the Springfield School Bus system. Through it all, she sought to provide for her children and nurture their well-being.
She was a loving mother to six children: Mark Campbell, Sophia Sweeney (who passed away at age three), Rohan Sweeney, Kaleen Sandy, Albert Sweeney, and Endon Sweeney. Her family legacy continues through 28 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two daughters-in-law, and one son-in-law.
Barbara's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Since 1981, she was a devoted member of Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving faithfully as a Deaconess, Usher, and in other roles. Her unwavering belief in God was an inspiration to all who knew her.
