Barbara Helen (Johnson) Swenson, 84, of Bedford, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
Barbara will be remembered for her dedication to family, the care she showed to those around her, and working with her husband and brother-in-law Paul Swenson, on their dairy farm.
She leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Allan M. Swenson of Bedford NH, her son, Karl Swenson of Boston, MA, and her daughter, Karen Swenson of Bedford, NH. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Lucille Doris (Petit) and Harry Arthur Johnson of Hooksett, NH.
Born in Manchester, NH, she grew up in Hooksett and Manchester. She attended Manchester Central High School and later Notre Dame College. Life was grounded in routine and purpose, particularly in supporting the work and pace of a farming household. Time outdoors was important, especially in the garden, where she cared for flowers and vegetables year after year. Animals were also a consistent part of her life, and she provided a home to many pets. A lasting contribution to the Bedford community came through the donation of land by Barbara and her husband, now known as Swenson Fields, which continues to be used and appreciated.
In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, there will be no services. She was buried in Westview Cemetery in Lexington, MA. This spring, please stop by the farm so you can take home a plant to grow in your garden in remembrance of Barbara.
Donations may be made in her memory to Darbster Rescue, a nonprofit organization in Manchester, NH dedicated finding homes for dogs and cats.
