Harper Funeral Home and Crematory - San AngeloBarbara Ruth (Puentez) Urquidez passed away on August 24, 2025 at the age of 77, in Austin, TX. A devout Catholic, loyal wife, and devoted mother, she resided in San Angelo, TX for over 20 years
Born in Bronte, TX, the eldest daughter of Feliciano (Felix) and Paula (Ortiz) Puentez, Barbara moved to Big Lake, TX as a child, growing up alongside the man who would be her future husband, G. Edward Urquidez. After their marriage in June of 1968, they moved to Fort Worth TX and later Baton Rouge, LA where she resided for 30 years. Her career included working as the school secretary at Silverside Academy before retiring from the Accounts Receivable department of the City of Baton Rouge.
Upon returning to West Texas, she and Edward spent their retirement traveling and enjoying time together. Barbara also enjoyed spending her Tuesdays at the Station 618 Senior Center, joining other retirees in painting and other artistic endeavors. Her hobbies included tending to her plants, painting, watching British mysteries, college baseball and football, especially if the LSU Tigers were on a good run. (Good luck, Brian Kelly, cause Mom won’t be helping you from where she is!)
Family was extremely important to her. She loved nothing more than to visit her children and various relatives across the state of Texas. Whether it was trips to see hot air balloons cover the early morning sky or touring Edward’s old stomping ground in San Diego, where he was stationed in the Navy in the 60’s, there was nothing that made her happier than making memories with those she loved.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Stephanie Urquidez, her son Douglas Urquidez and daughter-in-law Andrea Martin Urquidez, her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Rogelio Barrera, nephew Arthur Barerra, his wife Jessica Barrera, great-nieces Arianna and Isabella Barrera, great-nephew Adryen Guerra, niece Kris Ross and her husband Michael Ross, and great nephew Luke Ross.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Edward Urquidez, her parents Felix and Paula Puentez, and brother Arthur Puentez.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Santa Fe Crossing Senior Art Department Attn: Lola Squyres, Treasurer, 200 Las Lomas Ct. San Angelo, TX 76904.
