Barbara Virkus

Barbara "Barbie" Virkus, 54, of Andover, MN, passed away on July 18, 2025. Born on January 12, 1971, in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, Barbie was a devoted wife, beloved mother, cherished daughter, and a loyal friend to many. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and boundless encouragement that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Barbie's world revolved around her family, who were the source of her deepest joy and pride.
Barbie was preceded in death by her father Louis Virkus. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Andrew Mowery; children, Greta Smith, Wyatt Smith, and Jared Mowery; mother, Barb Virkus; parents in law, Don and Christa Mowery; very special aunt, Bonnie Wilson; sister, Darlene Reiland; brother in law, Mike Mowery; sister in law, Carrie Smith; estranged brother, Josh Virkus; and many extended relatives and friends whose lives she brightened.
Describing Barbie is no small task, as her warmth and positivity defied easy summary. She was the first to offer help and the last to leave your side, always cheering on those around her. Even during her most difficult days, Barbie's first question was, "How can I help you?" Her radiant smile, contagious laughter, and unfailing optimism were constants in the lives of all who knew her. Barbie's passions were many. She loved to travel, traversing the country with her "HOW" (House on Wheels), always eager for a new adventure or a scenic vista to paint. Painting wasn't just a hobby-it was her way of bringing people together, inviting family and friends to sit, chat, and share in the joy of creating something beautiful. Music was another lifelong passion; her joy was never more evident than when she was singing, dancing, or belting out karaoke tunes. Many evenings were spent playing cards, laughing and making memories with loved ones. Barbie's nimble fingers crafted countless crocheted blankets and gifts, thoughtful keepsakes beloved by all who received them. Barbie's ability to find the good in every person and situation inspired those around her to do the same. Her support and encouragement lifted many through their darkest hours, and her legacy of love will live on through the many lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life for Barbie, will be held on August 21 at 4 PM. Bunker Hills Pavilion 2 13655 County Pkwy A, Andover, MN 55304
