Barbara Susan Waters, 82, left this earth to meet our heavenly father on Tuesday, August 5, 2024, in Topeka, Kansas. She was born November 4, 1941, to Jim and Betty Holland in London, England. Barbara met the love of her life, Richard T. Waters Jr., and married him on July 15, 1989.
Barb was a strong, confident woman who never stopped helping and giving to others. She loved her family, her birthplace, England, but most of all, she loved God. She had many lifelong friends from England who she stayed in contact with. She volunteered for many organizations at St. David's Episcopal Church, such as organizing dinners and the prayer shawl ministry, and leading bible study. On her free time, she volunteered as a literacy tutor for Let's Help and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Barb had a quick sense of humor and was an avid reader, craft maker, and gourmet cook. She was actively involved politically in the Democratic party. She was an active member in Daughters of the King and British Wives and built many good friendships in these organizations.
Barb held several jobs throughout her lifetime. She worked at places such as Midway Wholesale, Fleming Foods, Landmark Real Estate, Bum Steer, but her favorite job of them all was being a mother, wife, grandmother, and big sister to anybody who needed it. She loved being a grandmother especially, she was always talking about them and finding every reason to bring them up in conversation.
Barb is survived by her husband, Richard Waters Jr.; children, Renae Waters, Ricky Waters III, Kelly Waters; grandchildren, Couron, Michael, Matthew, Howard, Ravyn; great-grandchildren, Couron, Jr, Layla; siblings, Mike Holland (Jan), Paul Holland (June), John Holland (Kathleen); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins from the US and UK.
Barb is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Betty Holland.
Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2024, at St. David's Episcopal Church, 3916 SW 17th St. Topeka KS 66604.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. David's Episcopal Church, Topeka Rescue Mission, or Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library in care of the funeral home.
