Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tom M. Wages Funeral Service - Snellville on Jan. 19, 2026.
Barbara Ann Huckleberry Westbrook passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026 at Northside Hospital Gwinnett, after a short illness. Barbara is preceded in death by her father, Carl Huckleberry; her mother, Renola Yates Huckleberry; her husband, Robert (Bob) Arthur Westbrook, and her four siblings, Carl Jr., Jack, Norma and Gene (Buddy). She is survived by her daughter, Laura Westbrook Spikes; granddaughter, Jamie Anne Spikes; and grandson, Jacob Henry Spikes.
Born October 12, 1939 in
Iola, Kansas, Barbara spent much of her childhood moving to various states where her father, a crane operator, found work. Her family eventually settled in Jacksonville, Florida. Immediately after graduating Andrew Jackson Senior High School in 1957, Barbara began working at Southern Bell as a secretary. It was in Jacksonville where she was set up on a blind date with Bob Westbrook, who would become her loving husband of 62 years. Bob and Barbara had one child, Laura. With Barbara working for Southern Bell / Bell South / AT&T, the couple moved to
Stone Mountain, GA, then to
Flanders, NJ, before finally retiring back to
Stone Mountain, GA. Barbara retired from AT&T as a Marketing Manager, one of the only ones in the company without a college degree!
It was after Barbara's early retirement that she and Bob were able to devote time to their shared love of camping. When in their 5th-wheel, they often traveled to Arizona, spending up to two months at a time enjoying the people, sites and famous "dry-heat". When the rigors of long-distance travel became too much, they traded in the truck and trailer for a motorhome and camped closer to home in Mountain Lakes Resort, in
Cleveland, GA.
In 2000, Barbara and Bob's twin grandchildren, Jamie and Jacob, were born. For the first two years, they took care of the twins several days a week at their house, furnishing their downstairs bedroom with two cribs (and later twin beds) and toys galore and their kitchen with high chairs. They even took the twins camping with them and were so proud to introduce them to all their friends and camping buddies.
Barbara leaves behind a legacy of being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a great friend and neighbor.
