Barbara M. Westerfield, 90, of Florence, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at her home on January 1, 2026. She was born on December 2, 1935, in Pearl, Mississippi, to Albert Allan Cooper and Ruby Hurst Cooper.
Barbara was married to the love of her life, Robert W. Westerfield, for 52 years. Together, they built a life rooted in family and faith. As a longtime resident of the Florence/Richland area for over 60 years, Barbara was an active member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Florence.
She retired from the Mississippi Highway Patrol – Narcotics Division in 1991 after 25 years of dedicated service as an Administrative Secretary. Barbara later continued her career as Administrative Assistant and Office Manager with Gulf Coast HIDTA for 16 years. Known for her strong work ethic and warm personality, Barbara touched many lives through her professional and personal endeavors.
Barbara loved her family deeply, especially her grandchildren, and found joy in caring for her pets and working in her yard. Her kindness and devotion will be remembered by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Gerald Douglas Wallace; her parents, Albert and Ruby Hurst Cooper; her beloved husband, Robert W. Westerfield; sisters Thelma Cooper May and Alice Cooper Taylor; and brothers William A. Cooper and David Earl Cooper.
Barbara is survived by her children: Chester R. Wallace (Libby) of Belle Chasse, LA; Jeffory R. Westerfield (Tina) of Staten, GA; Gregory S. Westerfield (Darlene) of Lawrenceville, GA; Christine Wallace Overby of Florence, MS; Bonnie Falcon (Bob) of East Greenwich, RI; and Kimberly Schlageter of Lawrenceville, GA. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Cooper George of Florence, MS, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry on her legacy. She also leaves behind Figgy and Bubbie, her beloved cats.
Visitation will be held Monday January 05, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM in the chapel. Friends and family will then proceed to Richland Cemetery for the committal service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Barbara’s honor to Richland Cemetery and/or CARA (Community Animal Rescue & Adoption).
