Barbara Prather Wickman of Weatherford, TX grew her wings and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on June 7th, 2024, at the age of 72.
Barbara was born February 2nd, 1952, in Weatherford, TX. She is a 1970 graduate of Weatherford High School and earned her associate degree from Weatherford College in 1972. Barbara married Mike Wickman in 1984 and had one son Michael in May 1985.
An accomplished professional, Barbara worked for the state of Texas, having a career spanning three decades. She started her career at the Department of Human Services Weatherford office in 1974, retiring as Regional Supervisor for the Office of the Inspector General in 2003. Having managed units in Arlington and Lubbock, Barbara's leadership was felt across the great state of Texas.
A proud Texan, Barbara was always proud of her family's heritage. The Prather family migrated from Tennessee to Texas in 1894 and settled the Carter community near where Charles Goodnight watered his cattle herds. They were farmers and stockmen. The family also owned and operated the Carter Telephone Exchange.
All her friends and family will remember her for how warm, sweet, and welcoming she was. Saying that she will be missed would be a massive understatement but, Heaven is twice as sweet now that Barbara has come home.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father I.E. Prather; mother, Audrey Prather (née Roberts); sister, Mary Springfield (née Prather); and cousin, Nancy Pruitt. She is survived by her son Michael Wickman; cousins, Nancy Bayouth (née Springfield), Keith Springfield, Charles "Tootie" Prater, and Brandy McDaniel (née Prater); and chosen sons, Luis Rosas, Jake Bryant, John Sedlak, and Mathew Hastings.
A memorial service will be held Saturday June 22nd, 2024, at Friendship Baptist Church, 801 Friendship Rd, Weatherford, TX 76085. Visitation will be at 1pm followed by the service at 2pm.

Happy Mothers Day! Not a day goes by where I don't miss you. Luis' family took me out to celebrate Mothers day. We went to that Japanese Hibachi place you used to love. They have been great about helping me get through this first year without you and so has Mechelle.

I saw a cardinal outside the window by my desk this past week. I know that that's you checking on me. I wish you would come by my desk more often but I know you're busy in Heaven. Thank you for coming to visit me, though. I keep one of those cardinal figurines next to your urn and a pair of your glasses. I miss you so much. I hope you can see me like I see you when I close my eyes.

Please keep watching over me extra careful these next few weeks. Your Heaven day June 7th is coming up and so is my 40th birthday and those are going to be tough this year. I love you and I know you'll be waiting for me in Paradise.

Hi mom! I'm really missing you today. I so wish you could be here tonight because Texas is playing Ohio State in the semifinals at Jerry World! They beat Clemson in the first round and just barely beat Arizona State in the quarter finals at the Peach Bowl. I know you're looking down on me tonight and always with me it still just isn't the same. We still got to watch Texas be good again together one last time in 2023.

Every time I see a red bird I feel like it's you somehow. I haven't seen one in a while but I know you're living it up on those streets of gold so you've been busy and can't always come to see me, but I'll know it's you every time I see one.

I love you and miss you and I will see you again one day. Until then, I'll be on the lookout for red birds every day. Love you, mom

Hi mom! I wanted to drop in to tell you I love you and wish you were here! I don't know how news gets up to Heaven but in case you haven't heard, Trump won a second term!!! Some of my favorite memories are of us laughing together at the wild stuff he would say. I'm so glad he's back and hope he get this country back on track.

I wanted to tell you Mechelle regularly checks on me and she wrote on my Facebook post the day you went to Heaven that you two were talking before your big surgery and you told her that if anything happened to you that I was hers. She will never be able to replace you but I feel your love for me coming through her.

I wanted to tell you before I sign-off that you were, still are, and always will be my hero. I always looked up to you and I'm sorry if I never told you that while you were still on Earth. I miss and love you so much! Bye for now!

Hi Mom! I wanted to tell you I love you and miss you everyday. I really wish you could be here to see Texas play in the SEC. Arch Manning is starting today (Quinn got hurt again) and it's their first SEC conference game. They're playing Mississippi State but they're not very good. And Texas is ranked #1 in the country! We have a bye week next week and then play OU in Dallas. That will give Quinn time to heal from his injury because we need him to beat the Sooners.

Well, I just wanted to drop in to tell you I miss you and i wish you could be here but I know where you're at is a much better place. I love you and I will write you again soon!

Hi Mom! This is my first Longhorns game since you went to Heaven. The games won't be the same without you because we used to watch every game on Saturdays in the fall. It's almost halftime and they still haven't shown Bevo yet but I'll always think of you when I see him. You got so excited over that bull!

I know you're in a much better place now but I can't help being selfish and wanting you here with me. Isaiah Bond transferred in from Alabama in the off-season and he caught a TD pass from Quinn Ewers while I've been writing this. (Matthew Golden, the Univeristy of Houston transfer just scored again!!!) I feel like you had something to do with that :)

Well, I just wanted to say hi. I'll stop by from time to time and leave you a message. I love you and miss you every day.

BTW, the halftime score is Texas 31 Colorado State 0.
