Donna Wickman Obituary
Donna Marie Wickman, age 79, of Quincy, died on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 9:09 a.m. in her home surrounded by her family.
Born on May 4, 1946, in Decatur, Illinois, Donna was the daughter of Walter and Helen (Koshinski) Gross. She married William Mark "Bill" Wayne in 1967, and they had three children, Lori, Angie, and Matthew. Donna later married Rev. Allen "Al" Wickman on September 7, 1996, in Quincy. He survives.
Over the years, Donna managed the Galesburg and Quincy Racquet Clubs, taught tennis lessons, and was the Middle Illinois Tennis Association secretary. Most recently, she was the assistant manager at The Salvation Army Family Store, serving in that capacity for over 13 years. Donna continued there as a volunteer with her husband after her retirement. Whether at work or out in the community, she had a special ability to always make people feel welcomed and put a smile on a person's face.
Throughout her life, Donna faithfully attended worship services and Bible studies. Donna and Al were actively involved in fellowship at St. Peter's in LaGrange, Missouri. She also regularly attended The Crossing and Hope Church in Quincy. Listening to Christian music and ministering to others, through greeting cards, brought her great joy.
Donna was an avid tennis player through her 50s, playing in many tournaments. Although she would never brag on herself, she was highly ranked for a while in the Middle Illinois Tennis Association. Her hobbies included flower gardening, tending to her plants, and bird watching. She also enjoyed crocheting. Her favorite pastime, though, was spending time with her family, in particular her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, Al, include her two daughters, Lori (Jim) Beyer of Williamsport, Indiana, and Angie (J.D.) Neiswender of Quincy; four step-children, Kathy (Rich) Nelson of Quincy, Cyndi (David) Danehy of Lumberton, NC, Dave Wickman of Quincy, and Brian (Fotini) Wickman of Marengo, IL; 15 grandchildren, Madeline (Isaac) Hunter, Meghan Beyer, Morgan (Chad) Englehardt, Madison (Lohgan) Curley, Bennett Neiswender, Alexander Wayne, Sarah and Elizabeth Nelson, Chloe and Juliet Danehy, and Theophano, Loukas, Euthalia, Anna, and Paisios Wickman; and a great-grandson, Harrison Curley.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Matthew Wayne, and her brother, Walter "Bud" Gross.
