Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harder Funeral Home - Brookfield on Dec. 9, 2025.
Barbara Jean Wieting (nee Leftwich) was born July 11, 1958 in
Joplin, Missouri. She was reborn in Holy Baptism on August 3rd, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Joplin.
Her family lived in Joplin until she was seven, and then moved to
Waco, TX. Barbara attended public schools in Waco. After High School and one year at McLennan Community College she studied art at Washington University in St. Louis. Upon receiving her degree, she was employed as an artist at the Lutheran Laymen's League in St. Louis, illustrating articles, preparing flyers and designing Christmas and Easter seals.
In 1983, she married Kenneth Wieting. They first lived in Wautoma, Wisconsin where he served Trinity Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran church, rural Hancock, as pastor and then Luther Memorial Chapel in Shorewood from 1990-2017. Through those years, God gifted the Wieting family with five children; Hannah, Luke, Benjamin, Bethany, and Mark. Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Bethany.
Barbara faithfully received God's gifts of forgiveness and life in His Word and Sacraments in her earthly life. The gracious love she received from Her Risen Lord in Water and Word and Body and Blood fed her love for others in her stations of life. Those loves included listening to and guiding her children, reading to them, doing craft projects for and with them; listening to and assisting friends with their needs; using her artistic skills to help beautify her congregations - designing banners and bulletins and artwork illustrating the loving gifts that God bestows through the flesh of Jesus the Christ. In more recent years she has deeply enjoyed giving and receiving love from her precious grandchildren.
Her baptism into Christ's death and resurrection (Romans 6) was completed on December 6th as her Lord called her home to be with Him. Her body now awaits its raising at the return of her risen and ascended Lord. Her family is very thankful for the faithful pastoral care and the congregational love she received these last six years at Our Father's Lutheran Church. Memorials are invited to Our Father's Lutheran Church,
Greenfield, WI or to Luther Memorial Chapel and University Student Center in
Shorewood, WI.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Kenneth of Delavan; her daughter Hannah Gnas (Steve) of Mukwonago; her son Luke (Hannah) of West Allis; her son, Benjamin (Erica) of Rome WI; her son Mark (Kimmy) of Fort Wayne, IN; her sister Carolyn Swoveland of

Waco, TX; and 17 grandchildren, John, Finn, Corliss, Narrah, Keziah, Miriam, Talitha, Crispin, Elizabeth, Selah, Lazarus, Phineas, Chloe, Isaiah, Peter, Rhoda, and baby girl.
