Barbara Wortmann

Barbara C. Wortmann, 82, passed away with her children surrounding her on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ. Fittingly, her circle of life started at Holy Name Hospital, where she was born on March 23, 1943. She was the oldest of three siblings and the daughter of August and Muriel Cronenberg. While Barbara spent her early years in Ridgefield, NJ, she graduated from Holy Family High School in Union City, NJ, class of 1961. Her highlights include being vice president of her senior class, being voted Snow Queen at her senior formal, and being voted best dancer for her senior superlative. She maintained close friendships from elementary, middle, and high school that lasted her lifetime. She went to work after high school and earned an associate's degree in accounting, so she could use her knack for numbers to be of service to other people. In 1965, she married her high school boyfriend, Charles John Wortmann, and while later divorced, her marriage produced her three children: Amy, Buddy, and April. She raised her family in Cresskill, NJ, and she was not only a beloved mother and grandmother, but she was a treasured community member. Whether it was through her work at the Borough Hall, being a scout leader, volunteering at the local food pantry, or any other of her numerous services to the community, not many in town did not know Barbara Wortmann and simply loved her. She was a resource to many and a kind, caring, authentic soul to whomever crossed her path. She loved to laugh, take trips, work hard, learn anything, assist others, connect with friends, have a cup of coffee, never pass up a game of Rummikub, and most of all, be with her family. Barbara is survived by her brother August Cronenberg, her sister, Muriel Cronenberg Mella, her daughter Amy McGee, son-in-law Pete McGee, son Charles "Buddy" Wortmann, daughter-in-law Christina Wortmann, daughter April Wortmann, daughter-in-law Erin Regan, grandsons Brian McGee, Kiel McGee, Matthew Wortmann, William Wortmann, James Wortmann, and granddaughter, Caitlin McGee. She was predeceased by her parents, August and Muriel Cronenberg. - Visiting hours will be held from 3 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Barrett Leber Funeral Home in Tenafly, NJ. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at St.Therese Church in Cresskill, NJ.
