Barney Forbes Obituary
Barney entered this life on January 6, 1931, in Star City, Arkansas, son of the late Walter Eugene and Gladys Hubbard Forbes. He attended Gould schools, graduating in 1949. Barney left Gould to attend the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. There he met the love of his life, Mary Wilson from Neosho, Missouri. The two married in 1952 while still attending the University. After graduation he was commissioned into the army in May 1954.
Barney was a proud Army veteran, retiring after 25 years of active duty. He retired to Noel, Missouri in 1979 and hunted and fished for a few years before becoming part owner of a weekly newspaper published in Southwest City, Missouri called the Elk River Current.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years Mary Wilson Forbes and his second wife of 3 years, Eleanor Gramling Forbes.
He is survived by one son, Charles Forbes (Mary), two daughters, Martha Luebker (Herman) and Mary Correia (Paul); five grandchildren, John, Dana, Joe, Delaine and Rebecca; six great-grandchildren, Emma, Alex, Travis, Santiago, Isabelle, Mason and Victoria Claire.
Memorial Service to honor Barney will be held at the Ozark Funeral Home in Southwest City, Missouri on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with Chaplain Bill Shea (retired Major) officiating.
Placing of ashes with full military honors will follow at the Polson Cemetery in Jay, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Smile Train or Compassion International. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson.
