Obituary
Barry Earl Cannon passed away on August 1, 2024, in Kerrville, Texas, with his beloved family by his side throughout his final days. He was 75 years old. A highly intelligent engineer and businessman, he lived a full and happy life surrounded by many family members and friends.
Born and raised in rural northern Louisiana, Barry quickly developed a love of nature, and enjoyed fishing especially. He loved to tell stories about his many childhood adventures, which his son particularly loved as bedtime stories. As he grew up, he developed a serious interest in amateur radio, excelled working with all kinds of electronics, and also became a small plane pilot. He graduated from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston with a degree in electrical engineering. After moving to Houston, he invented multiple medical devices, most famously a series of peripheral nerve stimulators produced by his company Neuro Technology, many of which are still in use in Anesthesia departments at hospitals and other medical facilities throughout the world. He was also a longtime member of his local Rotary clubs in River Oaks (Houston) and Kerrville, including serving as President. A long-time amateur radio operator, he was a member of the Hill Country Amateur Radio Club. Once he moved to Kerrville in 1998, he found his happy place on his property in the rolling hills between Kerrville and Ingram. There was nowhere else in the world he'd rather be than fishing in the lake, repairing all variety of devices and vehicles in his workshop, and watching the sun set over the hills behind the house.
Throughout his life, Barry was extremely generous with his time and resources to help many friends, community members, and charitable organizations. He always left a positive impression on those he met, and mentored multiple young people through the generations.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Diana. He was also an involved and loving father, and was especially proud of his son Matt, his daughter-in-law Danielle, and his dear grandchildren Easton and Berkeley. He will be missed immensely by many people, including his immediate family, his wonderful sister, Sue Cannon, multiple nieces and nephews, his brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many loyal friends from high school and college who have stayed in touch with him until this day.
Thank you to Reverend Alex Garcia, his brothers-in-law Pastor Rudy Elizondo and Eddie Elizondo, Father Rafael Duda and Deacon Sonny Kaufhold and wife Lillia; all of whom provided spiritual and emotional support. Also thank you to his many doctors, nurses, and physical therapists who have cared for him and genuinely cared about him. And finally, thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Home Helpers Home Care of Texas Hill Country and Peterson Hospice for their gentle and loving care toward the end of his life.
Services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
