Barry Dean Crow, 82, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024 under hospice care at Liza's Place. Barry was born in Moundsville, WV on July 12, 1942 to William D. and Hollis Elizabeth (Dakan) Crow of Limestone, WV. He was a 1960 graduate of Moundsville High School. He began his career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Wheeling where he worked as service store credit manager in Grove City, PA prior to being drafted into the US Army in 1966. He was sent to Vietnam in 1967 where he was assigned to the 39th Infantry Division, 9th Regiment as the radioman for his company serving on the front lines in the jungles of Vietnam. When he returned from his tour of duty he worked for Reichart Furniture Company as their carpet department manager and buyer for their 4 stores. Shortly thereafter he began his career in Specialty Advertising where he worked as a salesman and account manager for Gwynn Advertising of Wheeling for over 17 years. After retiring from Specialty Advertising, he joined Main Street Bank where he spent another 10 years developing client business and preparing home appraisals.
Dedicated to serving his community Barry was an active member of Stone United Presbyterian Church of Wheeling for over 50 years where he was an ordained Deacon and Elder. He was a 55-year member of the Elm Grove Lions where he served as president for two terms, was on the board of directors for many years and held several other offices within the club. He was named Elm Grove Lions Club Lion of the Year in 1994-95, was presented with the West Virginia Lions Sight Conservation Leonard Jarrett Award in 1998, and the Lions International Melvin Jones Fellow in 2012.
Barry was a 32nd degree Master Mason in the Scottish Rite, and a member of Ohio Lodge No. 1. In 1998 he became an active member of the Osiris Shrine Center where he held the office of Commander of the Osiris Legion of Honor for three separate terms. He also served as the publicity chairman for many years.
Barry loved the City of Wheeling and in 1998 was appointed to serve an unexpired 2-year term on Wheeling City Council. He was then elected to serve two more 4-year terms. He was the council representative on the Wheeling Planning Commission and continued to serve in that capacity for over 20 years. In 2018 he was presented the City of Wheeling Gateway Award by Mayor Glenn Elliott.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dianne Crow Menard, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Mary Lou (Martakis) Chambers and his nephew, Eric Chambers. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joyce Chambers Crow, his son Brian D. Crow (Jamie Klauke Crow) of Newport, KY, his daughter Beth Crow Garrett of Wheeling, grandchildren Marissa Garrett (fiancé' Kelvin Goodwin), Lance Williams, Brandon Williams and Xavier Morris and great- grandchildren Amirah, Ayzic and A'saun Goodwin all of Wheeling and his niece, Valerie Chambers and great nephews, Brayden, Paul and Mason Chambers of Lake Havasu City, AZ.
Friends will be received at Kepner Funeral Home in Elm Grove on Sunday, September 22, from 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm and again on Monday, September 23 at 10:00 am just prior to the 11am funeral service being held at Stone United Presbyterian Church, 25 East Cove Avenue, Elm Grove, WV.
