Dr. Barry Herbert Dubner passed away on Wednesday July 30, 2025 at approximately 9am in a hiking accident while on vacation in Blowing Rock, NC. Beloved husband and father of two, Barry was a pillar of the medical profession for many decades in Coral Springs/ Parkland.
Born in Philadelphia, Barry completed his undergraduate studies at Muhlenberg College and earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in 1984. He went on to complete an internship at Georgetown University Hospital. In 1985, Barry moved to Miami for his dermatology residency at the University of Miami's Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, which he completed in 1988. Although he went into practice after training, Barry stayed engaged with the Department as a Voluntary faculty member, regularly teaching and attending at Jackson clinic. In 2004, he was appointed Voluntary Professor.
Over the course of 40 years until his recent retirement, he provided exceptional care and helped his practice grow into one of the most preeminent and largest practices in South Florida. He had a large and diverse practice focusing on medical dermatology. Barry was a prominent figure in the South Florida Dermatology community. He was an active member and served as the membership chair of the Miami Dermatology Society, was a member of the Broward County Dermatology Society, the Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery and the American Academy of Dermatology, among several other medical and dermatologic societies.
Barry's passing was reflective of his curiosity and interest in adventure, and always looking for the next life experience. Barry was a true gentleman in the sense of the word. He was a loving husband, a great father, and a true friend. As everyone who knew Barry can tell you, he was unique.
While his work was his first passion, he had many other passions as well. He loved to bike, travel, and had a great passion for the arts, including movies, music, and books (which he spent most of his waking hours focusing on). While his passion for his interests was over the top, he never gave you the sense that any of his possessions were more important than the relationship he had with you.
Barry was bright, humble, mindful and highly intelligent. He was in a sense the picture of class, a mensch, all while being a little bit quirky. He could speak in depth about any complex subject, but had a challenge figuring how to connect a garden hose to his house.
Deepest condolences, prayers, and love to Barry's family and friends, especially to his wife Barbara, and his children, daughter Brooke, son Brandon, and daughter-in-law Talia. Barry is also survived by his 96-year-old mother Rebeca Dubner, brother Marc, sister-in-law Liz, niece Lauren and her husband Ryan, his nephew Michael and his wife Rachel. The funeral service will be held at Congregation Kol Tikvah in Parkland at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5th followed by service at the cemetery for immediate family. The family will be observing shiva at the Dubner home in Parkland on Tuesday, August 5th from 4:00 - 8:00pm and Wednesday, August 6th from 3:00 - 8:00pm. Shiva minyan both nights will begin at 7:00 pm.
Zichrono Livracha May his memory be a blessing for all those whose lives he touched.
