Barry Wayne Gillis, 71, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday July 22, 2025 in Dayton, Ohio.

Barry was born on January 16, 1954 in Ohio to his mother Lucille Gillis. After graduating from Wayne High School in Dayton, Ohio, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1972 and served two valiant years on the USS Ortolan during the Vietnam War. After retirement, Barry enjoyed his time raising his family, tinkering, and playing with number patterns. He enjoyed going on fishing trips with his children and friends. He spent his final days resting peacefully in his home surrounded by his children and loved ones.

Barry is survived by his wife of 29 years Patricia Gillis (Shroyer); his 7 children, Angela Keeton (Mark), Charles Rosener, Jeremy Pierce, Krista Rosener, Sara Rosener (Preston), Casandra Rambo (James), and Jacob Gillis; as well as 9 grandchildren. Barry is also survived by his brother Jay Gillis (Lucretia) and sister Tammy Cloyes; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Barry is preceded in death by his parents Lucille Gillis (Damron) and James A. Gillis. His son Jason Sanford and his daughter, Rebecca Shiverdecker.

Barry Gillis will have a viewing from 5:00pm to 6:00pm on Monday, July 28, 2025 with a service starting at 6:00pm, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow at his home immediately after his service. Following his cremation, he will be placed in his final resting place at Forest Hills Cemetery at a later date.
