I was a graduate student of Dr. Horowitz in 1982-83. I remember him as a kind, gentle and great guide. He was my project guide and a did offer me job for a aspiring graduate. He always used to say "I appreciate the small notes that you slip under my door" - this was reporting at that time. Email and others were not popular yet!. I am sad to see him gone. Wish I had spoken to him earlier

I'm so sorry to hear of this. Dr. Horowitz was my instructor at Louisville, and a huge influence on my career decisions. He cared deeply about his students, and was well-respected by everyone. He even came to my wedding waay out there in northen Kentucky. I really appreciate all that he did and demonstrating how to put students first.

Barry and I kept in touch pretty often and whenever he was going to be in New York, he reached and we got together. He once met me at the backstage entrance before a Bruce Springsteen concert in Louisville. He'll always be missed.

My earliest memory of my dear cousin Barry, when I was 5 and he was 13, is our slow dancing at his Bar Mitzvah. Because he was so much taller than I was, he kindly allowed me to stand on his feet. Many years later when we were both adults, we reflected wistfully on that shared memory.
What impressed me most about Barry were his generosity, kindness, and empathy. He always showed a sincere interest in the lives of others regardless of his health challenges. Though we didn´t talk often, when we did, we connected at a deep level. He was engaging and fun to be with.
I am so sad that he suffered at the end.

Through my very good friend and brother Bruce Horowitz and through their exceptionally wonderful parents, I knew Barry, a beautiful person in every possible way that a person could be beautiful. I often wonder why the good have to so often suffer with pains and debilitations. Barry had it so hard at the end and yet he had it so good for most of his life due to close family, close friends, and a love for his work. We´ll miss you here on earth Barry but we´ll all meet again one day. To a beautiful person I say-now you can Rest In Peace. Stephen Kiss

I took two classes taught by Dr. Horowitz for my EE degree over 24 years ago. Of my friends and colleagues who also had him as professor, he is one of the only professors that is revered by engineers decades later. He truly cared about his students and when you took a Horowitz class, you learned. R.I.P. Dr. Horowitz.
