Barry Dean McCafferty, age 83 of Otter Lake, MI passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on June 2, 1942 in Columbus, OH to Dean and Betty (Minick) McCafferty. Barry was a graduate of Liberty Union High School in Balt OH with the Class of 1960 where he played football for 4 years, was the baseball manager for 4 years and they earned 1st-All State Champs his senior year.. He worked at North American Aviation in Columbus, OH for 2 years. Barry moved to Tulsa OK and worked as a Quality Control Engineer. He was drafted into the United States Army where he worked in the Military Hospital and then was honorably discharged. Barry went on to work for McDonnel-Douglas Aircraft Corp where he worked on Apollo 11 from 1962-1979. In 1981 he moved to Lake Orion, MI and married Ruth Ann on October 1, 1982. He enjoyed watching the OSU Buckeyes and the grand kids sports. Barry loved boating and pulling the grand kids around the lake. He was a list maker for everything, especially when cooking for a family gathering. In his younger years, he was involved with drag racing, the Hot Rod Club and especially loved Corvettes.

Barry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ruth Ann McCafferty; children, Melanie (Glen) Kampman, Brian (Dedra) Dunn and Amy (Jim) Rowe; grandchildren, Alizabeth (Anthony) Atnip, Andrew James (Megan) Caldwell, Brandon Rowe, Breann (Corey) Fielder, Jarrett (Alyssa) Dunn, Austin Dunn, Erin (Ryan) Beemer and Adrienne (Andy) Kachmarsky; great grandchildren, Lincoln Atnip, Heath Atnip, Lila Fielder, Levi Fielder, Caitlyn Beemer, Camryn Beemer and Beau Kachmarsky; and sister, Karen (Jim) Heath

The family will receive visitors from 3-8 PM on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Avram Funeral Home and from 10-11 AM on Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Vassar Nazarene Church.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Vassar Nazarene Church with Pastor James Mellish officiating.

Burial will take place in Watertown Township Cemetery.

Memorial may be made in his honor to the Donor's Choice.
