Barry G McCoy, 62, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away from an extended illness on March 25, 2025.

Barry was born March 30, 1962, in Salem, Indiana to Jerry and Shirley (Patton) McCoy. Barry moved many times as a child because his father was in the Navy. Barry moved to Jacksonville, Florida from Seymour, Indiana in 1980 at the age of 17. He was baptized on April 6th, 1980, at Palm Valley Baptist, in Palm Valley, Florida. He was such a goal oriented, dedicated worker that he saved enough money for his first home, which he purchased at age 20.

Barry had been dating a 16-year-old girl named Dana Smith in Seymour, Indiana in 1979. In May 1985, Barry and Dana decided they would get together as Dana was coming to Jacksonville, Florida for vacation. On May 17th Dana arrived in Jacksonville and by May 31st the two were engaged. The two have been married 39 ½ years (40 years, September 27th). Barry and Dana have a son, Matthew, born in July 1987.

Barry was employed as Vice President at Surface Technologies Corporation, Mayport division, located in Mayport, Florida since June 16, 1986. He displayed enduring devotion throughout his career, working long hours, many weekends, away from his family at times for months, and continuing to supervise jobs while on vacations.

Barry loved fishing, both by boat and surf fishing. He was a certified diver, and he enjoyed going to the Florida Keys to spearfish as well as during lobster season. He enjoyed snorkeling for scallops with his family in Steinhatchee, Florida. He free dove into caves at several Florida Springs, once sucking in the air bubbles behind National Geographic diving photographers in a spring cave so he could see the cave as well.

He also enjoyed hunting, belonging to two different hunting camps. He enjoyed Indiana racoon hunting as a kid with his uncle, he also enjoyed duck hunting, deer hunting especially in Tennessee, wild boar, and would purchase gator tags annually to hunt for alligators. He fished several local tournaments with family.

Barry was a committed husband and unwavering caregiver, provider, and protector, a truly great friend, a loving supportive proud daddy, and sweetest Pawpaw to his grandson, Maxwell. He was full of life and loved his family. He left us on Tuesday, March 25th at 7:35 p.m., at sunset. He is terribly missed and will remain forever in our hearts, until we are rejoined.

Barry is survived by his wife Dana; son, Matthew; daughter-in-law, Dr. Marcy Platzer, and grandson Maxwell. He is further survived by his step-mother, Ronda McCoy; mother-in-law, Carol Gentle (John); step-mother-in-law, Karen Smith; sisters-in-law, Klara Smith (Tyson) and Kitty Smith; brothers-in-law, Owen Pugh, Tyson Smith (Klara) and Danny McGuffey, and aunts; Irmgard McCoy, Nancy Smith (Ron), Rosie Hamilton, Linda Trout and Betty White (Jim).
