Barry D. Walker

On this day, we are called to celebrate the life and remember the legacy of Mr. Barry DeWitt Walker, who was born on the last day of 1955 in Camden, New Jersey, and lived a life filled with ambition, dedication, and a spirit of adventure, until he was called home on February 16, 2024. Barry was a man of great faith, having grown up in Mt Zion Methodist Church, where his unwavering commitment remained a cornerstone of his life. His faith was so profound that he would often remark about the rare Sunday he missed church service, and he chose to spend every New Year's Eve, his birthday, in the house of the Lord. Jeremiah 29:11 was a verse that Barry often recited, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Barry known for his thoughtful nature was a fixture in the Camden community. Barry made his living as a dedicated truck driver. His ambitious spirit was showcased in his pursuit of a CDL license, which allowed him to drive 18-wheelers across the country. His love for the road was only rivaled by his passion for old cars. Barry was an adventurous soul who spent countless hours in his garage working on his extensive collection of vintage vehicles. He held an impressive gathering of trophies, earned through the meticulous restoration and showcasing of his beloved cars at various car shows and swap meets. Barry's hobbies extended beyond the mechanical, however, as he was an avid collector of oldies music, he loved bingo, a lover of seafood, and a dedicated caretaker to his companion of 40 years, a bird named Greenie. Barry loved football his favorite team NY Giants.

Barry was a man who found joy in the simple things in life: his church, his family, his cars, and his bird Greenie. He is survived by his loving mother, Pauline Walker, and his cherished siblings Phyllis Booth, Barbara Walker-Hundley (Allen), Linda Webb (Phillip), Roger Walker, Lisa Thompson, Patricia Walker. His loving caring neighbors for 16 years Nancy and Sandro. A host of family and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his father, John Edward Walker, Sr., and his brother, John Edward Walker, Jr. Nephew Shawn Walker, John Yelldell, Niece Kimberly Bailey.

Barry leaves behind many fond memories of his thoughtful actions, ambitious achievements, dedicated work, and adventurous pursuits.
