Bartholomew Joseph Duerr (Bart) was born on November 4, 1933, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Valentine Henry Duerr and Gertrude Kroeger Duerr. He attended St. Cecelia's Parish School, Mount St. Joseph High School, and Johns Hopkins University, from which he earned a business degree. Bart was especially fond of "Mt. St. Joe," and he continued to be devoted to his Alma Mater throughout his life.
Bart went to heaven on October 16, 2024, surrounded at home in New Smyrna Beach, FL, by his family.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Bart began working for "the phone company," then known as Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company. He took a break from C&P to serve proudly in the Army as a radio specialist, including spending much of his time in Korea. Bart returned to the Baltimore area and continued his career with C & P, rising to become a lobbyist in suburban Maryland before his retirement after more than 38 years. He then spent ten years as Public Affairs Director for Capitol College.
In his retirement, Bart became an avid volunteer at Mt. St. Joseph, joining the Fathers' Club when his own son entered the school. He continued to serve as the Chair of their annual bull and oyster roast for ten years and also on the board of the school's Alumni Association. Bart was awarded the highest possible honor, Knighthood of the Tower, by the school for his outstanding commitment and service.
Bart was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Joe and Jack, his infant sister Eleanor, and his infant daughter, Kristen. He is survived by his wife, Jeannette, and children Kathleen Saunders, Darlene Engles (Mike), Marlene Fedderson (Dana), Sharleen Duerr, Jonathan Duerr (Naiomy), Matthew Ferguson (Paula), and Audra Ferguson. Bart is also survived by his grandchildren, Carrie Spencer (Corey), Jesse Engles (Felicia), Devan Kotsonis (George), Chase Fedderson, Bryn Fedderson, Kendall Boyce (Jon), Kayla Saunders, Casie Bressette (Gregg), Wyatt Hall, Jacob Hall, Allison Ferguson, and Abigail Ferguson. His legacy continues through the next generation, his great-grandchildren Brighton, Slayden, Cru, Leo, Ezra, Kingston, Brixton, Beaux, Landon, Avery, Hailey, Conner, Tyler, Bellamy, Merrick, Ace and Roenne.
Bart and Jeannette relocated to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, in 2010, after Bart got tired of shoveling snow. Four of the couple's children now live in Florida, as well. Bart loved the opportunity to make a difference in the community, becoming active in St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church, Habitat for Humanity, and the Boys and Girls Club of New Smyrna Beach.
A Service of Resurrection with military honors will be held Saturday, November 16 at 11 am at St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church, 4220 Saxon Drive, New Smyrna Beach, FL, with interment of ashes in the church's memorial garden and light refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Bart's memory may be made to St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church (www.stpetersnet.net), Oretha Bell Boys and Girls Club of New Smyrna Beach (www.bgcvfc.org.), or Mount St. Joseph High School (www.msjnet.edu).

Dear Mr. Bart and Family--thank you for the memories I cherish. The few visits Tommy and I were able to make in recent years to you in Florida will always remain close to heart. The lifetime of fun, laughter and interaction with our entire family will always remain. Thinking of Dad laughing and welcoming Mr. Bart into eternity is a vision I love. Keeping you in my thoughts,
JANIE
