William F. Duerr, known affectionately to friends and family as Bill, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, at the age of 88 in Barrington, IL. Born on April 20, 1937, in Danville, IL, to Herbert and Elizabeth (Schreiver) Duerr, Bill grew up with a deep sense of duty and work ethic that would become the hallmark of his life.

Bill's steadfast nature was apparent early on, leading him to serve his nation as a proud Marine veteran. His service to his country was a source of great pride for Bill and instilled in him a sense of camaraderie and commitment that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, Bill returned to his roots in Illinois, where he would meet and marry the love of his life, Arlene (Clemans) Duerr. Together, they travelled throughout the United States and built a life filled with love and laughter, which continued until Arlene's passing.

Professionally, Bill dedicated many years as a skilled train mechanic for the EJ&E Railroad, where his reliability and expertise were highly valued. His work was not just a job but a part of who he was, as he found joy and purpose in the everyday tasks that kept the trains running smoothly. Bill's colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and grit, always ready to lend a helping hand..

Beyond his work and service, Bill was a devoted family man. He is survived by his three daughters, Lisa (Duerr) Turvey, Deborah (David) Murphy, and Kimberly (James) Adams. Bill's role as a father was one of his greatest joys, and he instilled in his daughters the values of hard work, perseverance, and kindness. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who will remember him for his gentle strength and his easy going attitude.

Bill's commitment to community was evident in his active involvement with the American Legion Unit 1080. As a member, he found fellowship and purpose in supporting fellow veterans and contributing to community service initiatives. His presence will be deeply missed by his comrades and the many lives he touched through his unwavering dedication to the organization.

Bill's interests extended beyond his work and service, as he found solace in the simple pleasures of life. He watched all Chicago sports (or any sports) religiously, especially the Chicago Cubs. He could always provide any stats or recaps of the games with enthusiasm.

Special thanks to the ICU unit at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL for all their kindness and help throughout Bill's time there,

Per Bill's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers please donate a tree in his memory.
