Lorenz Duerr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hamel-Lydon Chapel & Cremation Service of Massachusetts on Sep. 11, 2025.
Lorenz Duerr, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in Newton, Massachusetts. Born in June 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri to Lorenz and Adel Duerr, Lorenz lived a long and purposeful life shaped by
intellect, quiet dedication, and a deep commitment to both family and community.

He studied electrical engineering at the University of Missouri Rolla where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. A few years after graduating in 1957, Lorenz married Marjorie Kathleen Musson, with whom he shared many decades of partnership and love until her passing. Together, they raised their family while living in various places including Maryland, Ohio, and New York before settling in Uxbridge, Massachusetts for many years.

Lorenz served briefly in the United States Air Force and continued in the Air Force Reserve as he began his professional career. As a skilled and meticulous electrical engineer, he specialized in radio frequency
design. He contributed to a range of technological advancements and held several patents. His career spanned six decades until he finally retired at age 74.

Beyond his professional life, Lorenz was active in the Unitarian Church, where he found a spiritual home and a platform for his commitment to social justice. He worked with various groups over the years, advocating for causes he believed in and quietly helping to shape a more compassionate world. He enjoyed reading, fine dining, ethnic foods, card games and walking the family's rescued greyhounds.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marjorie. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia and son
Michael, as well as sister Lordel and brother Calvin. His companion in later years, Midge Wyman, passed last year. He will be remembered with love and gratitude for his steady presence, sharp mind, and
unwavering sense of responsibility.

A private service will be held in the future in his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes
donations to a charity of your choice.
