Barton L. Bigge

Barton L. Bigge, affectionately known as Bart, was born on August 3, 1940, in Stockton, Kansas. He passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, in Lee's Summit, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, intelligence, and an unwavering love for his family.

 Bart was a distinguished civil engineer whose brilliant mind contributed significantly to the field over the years. He spent a substantial part of his career at Butler Manufacturing, where he retired. His expertise and experience led him to continue serving as a consultant for the company post-retirement, serving as a testament to his deep commitment and passion for engineering. Bart was particularly proud of holding a patent for a building formation, a crowning achievement that spoke to his inventive spirit and professional capabilities. In 1962, Bart graduated with a bachelor's degree from K-State University, setting the foundation for a successful career. He was a man of few words, known for his candidness when he did choose to speak. His loved ones remember him as someone who never complained and did everything in his power to provide for his family, particularly his beloved wife, Ellen. They met on a blind date; a relationship that blossomed into a loving marriage soon after. Their honeymoon in New Orleans, Louisiana, remains a cherished memory and a symbol of their deep connection. Beyond his professional achievements, Bart had a diverse array of interests and hobbies. He was passionate about working on cars, proudly identifying himself as a GM enthusiast, with a special fondness for old Chevrolets, especially El Caminos. In his downtime, he enjoyed playing penny slots at the casino and found joy in supporting American Indian reservations, reflecting a compassionate side that was dear to his heart. He loved watching K-State and Kansas City Chiefs football games and was an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals. Growing up on a wheat farm, Bart was also a very proud member of the FFA.

Bart's passing was preceded by his parents, Hugh and Lena (Lambert) Bigge, and his siblings, Donald Bigge and Kay Cooper. His loving legacy continues on through his best friend and wife of 60 remarkable years, Ellen Bigge; his children, David Bigge (Julie), Ann Williams (Tom), and John Michael Bigge (Lisa); his grandchildren, Steven Bigge, Samuel Bigge, Riley Bigge, and Regan Bigge; and his brother, Dale Bigge.

 A visitation will be held on January 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Speaks Suburban Chapel located at 18020 East 39th St S, Independence, MO 64055. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, leading into a graveside service at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens, located at 18301 E Salisbury Rd, Independence, MO 64056, beginning at 3:30 PM.
