Beatrice Poole Derrick passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, September 6th at the age of 87.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Derrick, her daughter, Darlene Foster, her parents Levy Poole and Nora Wood, and her brothers and sisters Alberta Dillon, Frank Poole, and Calvin Poole.
Beatrice was born on April 16, 1938 in Swansea and met James while working at Walter Rawls Farm. After having Darlene, they moved to Aiken. She spent years working at Regal on the diaper line before later becoming a housewife. Known to everyone as “Nanny”, her favorite past times include sitting and rocking on her front porch, listening to country music (especially Conway Twitty, Blake Shelton, and Alan Jackson), and loving those around her. Nanny always wanted to be where everyone was and loved taking trips to Sam’s, Belk’s, or Hamrick’s, and Ridge Spring in the summer for peaches and watermelons. If she wasn’t going, she enjoyed being on her couch or porch with a Debbie Cake and Coke.
Nanny’s memory will be carried on through a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Brandy and Matthew Smalley, a son-in-law, Curt Foster, and two great-grandchildren that she adored, Preston and Lilly Smalley. She also leaves behind a special friend, Dana Curry, and a devoted caregiver, Amber Shaw.
Beatrice showed everyone love, kindness, and prayed for them. She was a sweet Nanny to everyone and her, “Come give me a hug!” will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, September 10th beginning at 2 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow at 3 o’clock at the funeral home. Private entombment will be in Aiken Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Golden Harvest Food Bank.
