Beatrice Woolridge, 82, passed away on March 11, 2025, in Akron, Ohio. A woman of unwavering faith and boundless love, she leaves behind a legacy of devotion, resilience, and joy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Born on October 9, 1942, Beatrice was the beloved daughter of Marjorie Heidelberg Glinn and Sam L. Glinn. From an early age, she carried a feisty spirit and a deep sense of care for those around her. She graduated from Central High School before attending the University of Akron. While studying there, she worked as a phone seller of fine hosiery—a small but telling glimpse into her tenacity and charm.
Beatrice dedicated 23 years to the medical benefits department at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company before retiring. Her work was more than just a career; it was an extension of her nurturing nature—ensuring others were cared for and supported.
Her heart found its perfect match in Vaughn Woolridge, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage filled with laughter, love, and unwavering partnership. Together they built a family rooted in strength and warmth. She was the proud mother of Kara Woolridge and Sara Woolridge and was a loving supportive mother figure to James Gordon, her chosen son. She cherished her granddaughter LeKesha Parkman and held close bonds with her brother Sam (Jacqueline) Glinn and chosen brother William (Velma) Sales. She is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and solid friends who will miss her dearly.
Her faith was central to all she did. As a devoted member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Beatrice served as president emeritus of the Nurses Guild and guided young minds as a trusted Sunday school teacher. Her wisdom resonated deeply with the teenagers under her care—she had a way of making them feel heard and understood.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: piecing together jigsaw puzzles with patience and precision; reveling in the camaraderie of bingo games; losing herself in books as an insatiable reader. Music stirred her soul—whether it was hip-slapping gospel that lifted spirits or the smooth sounds of Sam Cooke, The O’Jays, or the blues that spoke to life’s joys and sorrows. And thanks to Vaughn’s influence, she became fully indoctrinated into Steelers Nation—a steadfast fan through every victory and defeat.
Beyond these passions lay something even greater: Beatrice’s ability to make people feel seen, heard, and loved. Whether as a faithful servant within her church community or as an attentive daughter comforting those in need—her presence brought solace. She embodied what it meant to be a devoted wife, proud mother, loving sister, loyal friend—and above all else—a beacon of kindness wrapped in fiery determination.
She now joins in eternal rest with those who went before her: her parents Marjorie Heidelberg Glinn and Sam L. Glinn; as well as Baby Boy Woolridge—an angel always held close in heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Road, Akron OH 44305). Visitation will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00pm before the service begins at 12:00pm.
Beatrice’s legacy is woven into every life she touched—through laughter shared over puzzles or hymns sung in unison at church pews; through quiet moments spent reading or lively debates over football plays; through every act of kindness that made someone feel seen and loved. May those who knew her find comfort in these memories and carry forward the lessons she so effortlessly imparted: faith without wavering, love without condition, joy without reservation.
Rest well now in eternal peace—you have run your race beautifully.
