With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Beau Michael Buchan. Beau passed away June 4, 2023, in Lucas, Iowa. Beau was born March 22, 1985, to Byron Buchan and Nichole Moran in Gordon, Nebraska. Beau spent most of his childhood in Nebraska and during this time made several life-long friends including Bryan Easton, Daniel Reutter and Jamie Deckert. Together with Beau these three were known as “The Four Horseman”. Throughout Beau’s life he worked many jobs. Although most of his adult life was spent in Colorado, Beau was able to travel to many different places through the jobs that he held. He was able to travel the country from one ocean to the other.
While living in Colorado, Beau met and married Emily Upchurch in 2010. To this union one daughter, Jewel was born. Jewel was the light of Beau’s life. While living in Colorado his favorite job was being a bar-back and bouncer at the local bars. He loved the interaction with people and the atmosphere that this job provided. During his time in Colorado, he made many close friends including Sky Dart. After 2013, Beau lived in many different states – Arkansas, Oregon, Colorado, Nebraska and finally Iowa. Through his travels, he touched many people’s lives and will be missed by all.
In the last few years of his life, he lived with his father in Valentine and then moved to Lincoln to be closer to his friend Bryan Easton and Bryan’s mother Sandy Fankhauser, whom Beau considered to be his “adoptive mother”.
Left behind to mourn his loss are his father, Byron (Kim) Buchan, mother Nichole Moran, daughter Jewel, brothers Jamie Edwards, Eric Buchan, Tyler Buchan and Seth (Ashley) Beitel, stepsister Courtney (Chris) Puncochar, stepbrother Michael Barth, sister Bryanne Paschall, brother James Girten, uncle Butch (Rosie) Buchan, cousins Karie McClary, Julie Garcia, Justin Minshew, Jared Minshew, LaShona Harpold, aunt Barb (Rich) Schrader, cousins Ryan Schrader and Shane Schrader, cousins Heather Buchan and Skye Buchan, grandmother Bertha Buchan, ex-stepmother Liz Buchan and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Robert Buchan, uncle Robert Buchan, Jr., uncle Willard Buchan, and maternal grandfather John Moran.
Memorial services will be held Friday, June 16, 2023, 10:00am at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, Gordon, Nebraska.
In Beau’s last years he struggled with mental health and addiction issues. Donations to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (afsp.org) are suggested in lieu of flowers.
